The history buff in me can't stop wondering about this cocktail.
the Alabama Slammer
Ingredients:
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz Southern Comfort
1/2 oz amaretto
1/2 oz sloe gin
2 oz orange juice
Preparation:
Build the liquors into a highball glass filled with ice. Fill with orange juice.
This is the most common recipe for this cocktail. Another variation is:
1/2 oz amaretto almond liqueur
1/2 oz Southern Comfort® peach liqueur
1/2 oz sloe gin
1 splash orange juice
1 splash sweet and sour mix
Preparation:
Build the liquors into an old fashioned glass glass filled with ice. Fill with orange juice.
The only history I can find about this drink is it originated at the University of Alabama. I am very curious to know if there is a story behind this. It seems to be a drink or a shooter that everyone has heard of. If anyone has any info for me on this please do tell! (it seems I'm back at this blog thing again)

I too heard it was originated at the University of Alabama in 1975. It is interesting how many variations of this drink there are. I've seen them made with Jack Daniels as well as vodka. What's even more surprising is how the recipe for the cocktail differs from the shot.
Not sure where it originated from, but I have an interesting thing I had found about this drink. I heard that it was created as a joke for the husband to be to drink them all night the night before the wedding date. Supposedly it does something to the vocal cords and makes the voice hoarse. This is said to only work if you drink many of them the night before. I do not know if this is true or not, but I did find it interesting. :)
